Seattle - September 2006 - Following a review of submitted applications, Fort Wainwright and Fort Richardson have selected TKCIS and Giant Campus to create, implement, and manage a computer technology training program at each of their respective locations. The program focuses on serving the children and dependents of Service Personnel and DoD civilians assigned to these posts through a variety of youth technology training programs, and distance learning courses for both youth and adults.
"This is an exciting opportunity for Giant Campus to provide computer and technology training programs to these installations," says Pete Findley, CEO of Giant Campus. "The two Alaska Army Posts, in addition to our existing contracts at Fort Lewis in Washington, Nellis AFB in Nevada and MacDill AFB in Florida, gives Giant Campus the opportunity to serve even more families with highly valued services."
Giant Campus sees the addition of Fort Wainwright and Fort Richardson as a natural progression in implementing a vision. Says Findley, "We've seen a tremendous amount of interest and participation in this program in every brand of the Service. And it's the type of family program that makes a direct and immediate difference in the quality of life."
A digital gap exists between civilian and military households when it comes to computer availability and Internet access. It is estimated that only 20-30% of military children have home Internet access, but 83% of civilian households report computer ownership and 78% of children regularly go online. Giant Campus fills the gap with its research-proven teaching methods and a unique web-based curriculum that makes technology training both enjoyable and transformative.
Fort Richardson offers soldiers and their families activities and programs that are recognized as the best Army-wide. Fort Richardson's boundaries include more than 60,000 acres of landscaped and beautiful woodlands nestled along the Chugach Mountain Range, with its main garrison about 7 miles east of Alaska's largest urban city.
Fort Wainwright is home to United States Army Garrison and units of the United States Army Alaska (USARAK) including the 172d Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT), 4-123 rd Aviation and Medical Activity Alaska. The post is located in the Tanana River Valley just east of Fairbanks in the center of Alaska , America's "Last Frontier."
