Seattle - July 2006 - Pearl Harbor Naval Station contracted with Giant Campus to provide technology and computer training to its youth population in April 2006. Due to the exemplary performance of Giant Campus, another contract has been extended to Giant Campus to provide adult technology training on site. "The [Giant Campus] program development and delivery exceeded our expectations," said Taylor W. Skardon, Captain, U.S. Navy, Commanding Officer at Pearl Harbor Naval Station. "[They] provided professional leadership at all levels, exceptional project management, and superior program coordination and collaboration. The overall quality of leadership, style of instruction, and course content was exceptional."

The multi-week adult training program resembles similar programs already under contract with the Department of the Army and the Department of the Air Force. Giant Campus has programs operating in Nevada at Nellis AFB, in Florida at MacDill AFB, and in Washington at McChord AFB and Ft. Lewis Army Post.

"Pearl Harbor Naval Station has demonstrated a major commitment to its family populations by bringing both of these programs to their communities," says Pete Findley, CEO of Giant Campus. "We continue to see great interest and participation in these offerings and they are meeting a critical need."

A digital gap exists between civilian and military households when it comes to computer availability and Internet access. It is estimated that only 20-30% of military children have home Internet access, but 83% of civilian households report computer ownership and 78% of children regularly go online. Giant Campus fills the gap with its research-proven teaching methods and a unique web-based curriculum that makes technology training both enjoyable and transformative.

Hawaii is home to the Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, which geographically is the largest of the eight unified/specified U.S. commands. It is the nerve center of the United States' Pacific defense. Following tourism, the military is most important to Hawaii's economy, contributing more than $4.6 billion a year and employing 27,000 civilians. There are more than 55,000 active duty military personnel on the islands, 65,000 family members, and 10,000 National Guard and reservists. Also among Hawaii's military population are 13,000 retirees and 101,000 veterans.
