Naval Station Pearl Harbor Contracts for Cybercamps - the Nation's Leading Summer Youth Computer Training Program

Seattle - April 2006 - Naval Station Pearl Harbor has selected Giant Campus' Cybercamps program to be a part of their summer program for the installation's youth. Cybercamps is the longest-running, national computer training program for youth, ages 7-18. The program will be offered for free to the Base youth.

"The Navy doesn't have anything quite like this program," states Richard Geier, Colonel U.S. Army (Retired), director of military programs for Giant Campus. "We've seen a tremendous amount of interest and participation in the program at other installations across the U.S. And it's the type of program that makes a direct and immediate difference in the quality of life for our military families. This program is bridging a technological gap. Youth are especially benefiting. They're learning the skills they need to stay competitive in a technologically savvy world."

A technology gap exists because only 20-30% of military children have home Internet access. Whereas according to recent reports, 83% of family households in the US report computer ownership and 78% of children regularly go online. Giant Campus fills the gap with its research-proven teaching methods and a unique web-based curriculum.

Hawaii is home to the Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, which geographically is the largest of the eight unified/specified U.S. commands. It is the nerve center of the United States' Pacific defense. Following tourism, the military is most important to Hawaii's economy, contributing more than $4.6 billion a year and employing 27,000 civilians. There are more than 55,000 active duty military personnel on the islands, 65,000 family members and 10,000 National Guard and reservists. Also among Hawaii's military population are 13,000 retirees and 101,000 veterans.
